Leaves are alternate, heart shaped with a bump or tooth at the base, and can be dark green, or red. 
Stem is prostrate, forming a running vine up to 10 feet long, and root at nodes as it trails. Bumps are found along the stem. Stem has milky sap
Flower is rare but solitary, pale pink to violet trumpet shaped when it occurs.
Roots are tuberous.

Propagation is vegetatively from stem fragments and tuber cuttings.
