Woody branched perennial herb that can form dense stands, native of North and Central America. It is commonly found in wet areas along water edges, ditches, and canals.Leaves are linear or lance-shaped, alternate, short stalked and hairy at the top and bottom.
Stem is erect, branched, smooth to hairy, 6 to 7 feet tall.
Flowers are solitary and yellow with 4 parts. Seed pod is hairy and 8 sided with a long vase like bottom.
Roots are fibrous, branching from a taproot.
Propagation is by seed or vegetatively from cuttings.
