May 14-15 2024: Plant Pathology Research and Professional Development Symposium

The very first Plant Pathology Research and Professional Development Symposium offered a fantastic opportunity for the department members to connect. Lab X students Vitor A. S. Moura and Tarciso A. Ferreira Jr. had the chance to present their research alongside Dr. Larissa Ferreira, who played a role in organizing the event. This symposium served as a valuable steppingstone for them, allowing them to gain valuable feedback and experience presenting their work before tackling larger conferences this summer.

UF Plant Pathology Field Trip

On March 12th, 2024, the Lab X team hosted graduate students from the University of Florida's Plant Pathology department at the Everglades Research and Education Center (EREC). This bi-annual field trip allows students to gain firsthand experience at research and education centers working with plant pathologists. We showcased diverse vegetable production practices, specifically highlighting lettuce and leafy greens.

EREC Student Association- Career Development

The EREC Student Association offers a valuable resource for students by organizing the "Career Development Series." On March 29th, Dr. Katia Xavier presented a session on "Academia vs Industry," helping students decide their career path. The series continued on May 31st with a seminar titled "Unlocking Postdoctoral Opportunities: A seminar for aspiring researchers," featuring Dr. Larissa Ferreira and Dr. Pamela Santos sharing their experiences to guide future researchers.

These are just a few examples of how our teams are actively contributing to the advancement of plant pathology.
