Erect stem, smooth, soft, succulent, hollow, 8 inches to 3 feet tall. Basal leaves form a rosette. Leaves are alternate, fleshy, and bluntly notched. Basal and lower leaves are stalked, upper leaves have no stalk. Clusters of showy yellow flowers bloom in the spring. Roots are fibrous with a taproot. Propagation is by seeds.
