Mutation and Conventional Breeding of High-quality Aromatic Rice Situation or issue identification: Specialty rices are increasingly popular with consumers. Certain aromatic rices are imported in large quantities. These varieties are not suited for production in the US. We are modifying traits such as plant height and photoperiod response to create genotypes suitable for production here. Measurable or potential impact in terms of social, economic, and/or environmental factors resulting from expenditure of research support funds: Measurable effect would be if resulting germplasm can make farmers money or be used for breeding adapted cultivars. Collaborating organizations/agencies and teaching/research/extension partnerships: USDA/ARS, National Rice Research Institute, University of Arkansas. For more information contact: Christopher W.
